I like lots of pedestal sinks but the following three are really cool. Some are pretty expensive like the St. Thomas Creations Liberty Pedestal Lavatory Sink and others like the Colony Pedestal Sink by American Standard are not that high priced. I’ll be discussing what is cool about these pedestal sinks and what their features and dimensions are. Keep reading to get all the details.

I’ll start off with the St. Thomas Creations Liberty Pedestal Lavatory Sink that you can pick up for around $450. I would consider its look very simple yet the simplicity is what makes it look so clean and so nice. It is made from vitreious china and has a rear overflow. It has 12 inch center faucet drilling’s and is 25.5 inches wide by 21.75 inches by 34.12 inches high. There are no markings like ridges or patterns on the pedestal leg or on the top bowl part. It is fairly large for a pedestal sink which is why I think I like it so much. There looks to be room for a soap dispenser.

Now I’ll move onto the $200 Colony Pedestal Sink by American Standard. It is also made from vitreous china but its overflow is in the front of the bowl. I’m a fan of this pedestal sink since there is a nice ledge for accessories or a soap dish. You can get the Colony with 4 inch or 8 inch faucet drilling’s. I would prefer the 8 inch drilling’s. The size of its bowl is 17.5 inches by 11.5 by 5.5 inches. The overall size of the sink is 21.75 inches by 18.5 by 34 inches. There is a nice simple design on the pedestal leg and there is a lower ledge where the faucet goes. Both of these features help to sell me on this pedestal sink.

I’ll start out discussing a the characteristics of a simple or plain pedestal sink. Usually they will lack a lot of designs and special features. They are just your standard sink. Think no fancy curves but rather a plain pedestal leg and on top is just a simple sink bowl. Although having something so simple in your bathroom can really improve its look. Its funny but lots of bathrooms look better with a simple plain pedestal sink than a fancy one. These types can work in either a bathroom with a lot going on or just a little bit of background colors. Think about it, if you have a nice little, simple bathroom a perfect sink for it would be just a normal pedestal sink with out all the frills. It will fit right in. On the other hand a simple pedestal sink will look nice in a bathroom with lots going on since it will stand out from the surrounding busyness and draw your eye to it.

While a simple pedestal sink can pretty much go with any type of bathroom I think that a fancy pedestal sink should only be used when the bathroom is also very fancy and has a lot of extras to it. The reason is that in a fancy pedestal sink would stick out to much and make your little, simple powder room look weird. I know some people do not agree with this but its just my humble opinion on how it would look. So once you decide on either simple or fancy you can start a more in depth search on exactly which model you will get. Thats enough info for this posts, I’ll discuss picking the right pedestal model for you in the next post.

As you have probably seen most pedestal sinks are white in color. Most of them are a bright shade of white but some others are darker or lighter. Do you think you would like it if they came in multiple colors? I have yet to see a place that had lots of pedestal sinks in different colors. This post will discuss my thoughts on this.

When you think of a pedestal sink what comes to mind right away. I think of a stunning white color as the color of the sink. I think most people would agree with this assessment. Back in the day pedestal sinks where white and since people over the last few decades have been interested in putting them back in their homes they have used the white color. The white color is great and can pretty much work for any powder room or other bathroom theme. But lets go over how a black or yellow pedestal sink would look in your bathroom.

For certain color bathroom color schemes I think have a pedestal sink that is not white could do wonders for the room. Think about if you have a bathroom that is mostly white or light colors. Putting a black pedestal sink in there would make it really stand out and also it would be the focal point of the room. It would also impress your friends a lot, I bet. Now that is a method to have it stand out from the rest of your decor the next is to have it blend perfectly.

A lot of people like to go for an ocean theme or a sky one. This usually involves some kind of blue colors or a combination of blue colors. How cool would a dark blue pedestal sink look in a bathroom that is has lots of light blue in it. I think it would blend in perfect or you could even make the pedestal sink light blue in color so it blends in even better.

Installing a pedestal sink is not hard if you pay attention to a few important details. Also you should take your time and not rush when working on the install. I know lots of people who try to quickly get the sink up but they end up messing something up or the pedestal sink does just not sit right. Also keep in mind that you should read through any instructions that come with your pedestal sink. This is only a general guide.

Okay now on to your simple guide for installing a pedestal sink. If you have never installed one, you might not realize that you need to support the sink similar to a normal vanity sink. It would be nice if all the pipes could come out of the bottom of the floor and up the pedestal to your faucets but this is just not the case. I think it would be really cool to have a pedestal sink in the middle of a huge master bathroom. But the only way to do this would be to have all the plumbing come up from the floor and you would probably need a special supports around the base to support the sink with out the help of a wall. Sorry for the off topic info, it just popped in my head and I thought it would be really neat.

Now all you have to do is place your pedestal sink where you want it. Then you will need to get a level which will be used so you can mark the spot on the floor and the spots on the wall where you will be mounting the sink. Next you will pull the pedestal sink away from the wall and floor markings and get your drill. You will now be drilling out the holes that you marked off in the above steps. After this you will install the faucet and drain assembly. Keep in mind you usually have to buy the valves and faucet separate.

Once that is all done you will be using your fasteners or screws to fix the top lavatory part to the wall. Then all you got to do is connect the trap and drain assembly pieces. Once you have the top bowl part tightly secured to the wall you will next drill holes in the floor and use your bolts to secure the pedestal base. Be careful when tightening the bolts. If you over do it, you can actually crack the porcelain. Thats pretty much it for a simple install guide. Keep in mind this is just a simple overview to give you an idea on how to install your pedestal sink.

When it comes to buying a pedestal sink you have lots and lots of options to choose from. Depeding on what you want, you can sped under one hundred dollars or over one thousand. This article will discuss three different pedestal sinks from the low, medium, and high price ranges. It should give you a general idea of what you are really getting when you spend more money.

If you are going be going for a sink in the under one hundred dollar category, do not expect to get very much. One example is the Deluxe Pedestal Sink which is made my Randolph Morris. It has four inch faucet drillings and is made from vitreous China. I’ve only seen this model in white but I guess thats not a big deal since most pedestal sinks are white. The dimensions are twenty two inches by nineteen inches by thirty five inches. This is just your basic pedestal sink and seems like a good one if you are just starting out and want to see if you do really like these kind of sinks. Keep in mind most places will sell the faucet setup separately.

One of my favorites from the medium price category is the Cheviot Shell Pedestal Sink. It is also made from Vitreous China and has the four inch center faucet drillings. This particular model has a very beautiful design. To me it would fit perfect in an ocean or blue themed bathroom. It really reminds me of seeing shells washed up on the beach. I also like how the pattern on it stops short of the base. You should be able to find this pedestal sink for under $279. If you do go with this one, you will need to buy a four inch bridge faucet or a center set faucet for it.

A pedestal sink that costs over $1,100 better deliver some great quality and the Parisian Grande Pedestal Sink made by St. Thomas creations does not disappoint. Most pedestal sinks have the problem of not having any room to store things on it, well thats not the issue with the Parisian. It is over 43 inches wide with lots of space for you around the bowl. This model will really set you apart as having a classy and rich pedestal sink. The only downside is the size is much bigger when it comes to comparing it to most pedestal sinks, but if you are going pay over one thousand dollars on a sink I’m sure you’ll have room for it. I hope to one day get one for my home.

In addition to saving you space the pedestal sink can make your powder room look bigger than it really is. This is a nice bonus effect that combined with its usual space saving ability make this sink a great piece. Because there is nothing but the leg at the base of the pedestal sink; it gives out more floor space. When the eye sees more space on the floor it naturally makes the room look bigger. Many people are surprised how drastic of an effect they can have with this technique. Don’t worry if you think your bathroom is too small since you can easily install a pedestal sink to fix your problem.

While there are many reasons to place a pedestal sink in your powder room or bathroom; I think there are three main reasons. First you can really make your bathroom look elegant and classy just by adding a pedestal sink. Second they work great when you only have a small space to work with. Lastly they cost much less than the high end console sinks but yet the pedestal sink has the same effect on your bathroom.

Pedestal sinks also come in very handy when you don’t have the room to put up a big expensive sink or a normal vanity in your powder room or a smaller bathroom. Because of their shape with one leg, you can easily fit it in places that other sinks can not go. While the pedestal sink saves on room it also can easily make the space around it look much bigger than it actually is. When things are all crammed all over a room; the room will look really small. Your bathroom will look more open with a pedestal sink which will cause people to view it as larger room than it really is.

If your budget conscious but still want something classy and beautiful, a pedestal sink will be the perfect match for you. These type of sinks are much cheaper than the high end consoles out there. To me, you can get the same effect for a third of the price. Why pay more when you don’t have to. You can buy a great looking pedestal sink for under $300. Thats not much at all to spend on something that can add so much beauty and richness.

While pedestal sinks are great for many of the reasons mentioned on this site there is a drawback to them. Many people complain about the problem of how to store things on or in their pedestal sink. Unlike the normal vanity sink; you don’t have luxury of extra space around the top part. You also don’t have the cabinet space or draws on the bottom. While this issue isn’t that big of a deal when using a Pedestal Sink in your powder room it does cause some problems when used in the master bathroom or other full bathrooms.

If your a fan of the pedestal sink, the storage issue is not much of a big issue, but for the others there are some solutions to this problem. The easiest thing to do is to install a medicine cabinet that goes with your bathroom theme. Just make sure the cabinet does not clash with the pedestal sink or you’ll be defeating the purpose of adding such a unique piece to the area.

Another technique is to buy vanity draws that go along with your theme and place one on each side of your pedestal sink. This is best used in your master bathroom since you need room to do this. If you have lots of space in your master bath, you can do it up really nice with two pedestal sinks. In between them just add a nice cabinet or one of the many units you can stick to the wall. As long ad the wall unit is not too obtrusive I like to go with them, especially when making storage space in a powder room. With just a little extra work you can easily make sure you will have a storage area near your pedestal sink.

Back in the day there were not many types of pedestal sinks to choose from. Now in the modern world you really have your pick. There is a pedestal sink out there to meet everyone’s unique criteria. It doesn’t matter if your using it in the master bathroom or simply the powder room. The following are some of the most current popular models.

The Standard Collection Pedestal Sink by American Standard is one of my favorites. Whats so great about this pedestal sink is that it is pretty much exactly the same as the original made back in 1922. How cool is that! Although its been updated for the modern world so it can meet the new codes and regulations it is basically the same sink. One thing that is noticeably different is the Standard has a height of 36 inches. Of course back in the day, pedestal sinks were much shorter since people were not as tall as they are now. The height difference is not a big deal to me since it makes it more comfortable for us to use. I saw this pedestal sink selling for around $350.

Now the Kathryn Pedestal Lavatory by Kohler is expensive but worth it if your a fan of top notch pedestal sinks. I’ve seen this one go from $450 to $800 depending where you buy and what options you get with it. The Kathryn Pedestal Lavatory is a wonderful piece that reminds me somewhat of how the Romans did their architecture. Of course its made from fire clay and has an overflow hole. Kohler is known of their quality products and I’m sure this pedestal sink is no different.
